Gradient of a line

slope or gradient of a line

Gradient of a line: The ratio of rise to the run is called gradient of a line or known as slope or gradiant of the inclined path and is denoted

m = rise / run

m  =  y / x  = tan α

where  y mean ⇑ up

and

x = run in path

slope or gradient of a line

where α ( alpha) is the inclination of the inclined path with positive x – axis

Gradient of a straight line joining  two point

Slope line L  with inclination α  passes through two point

 P ( x₁ , y₁ )  and Q (  x ₂ , y ₂)  then the slope m of the line  L is given by

m=y₂ – y ₁ / x ₂ – x₁  = tan α
