Equation of circle in 2nd quardrant

Equation of circle second quardrant : Equation of a circle  of radius < a > and lying in the second quardrant such as it is tangent to both the axes.

The required circle is shown in the adjoint figure . the coordinte of the centre are C ( – a , a ).

Equation of circle in 2nd quardrant

Equation of the required circle is 

[ x – ( – a ) ] ² + [ y – a ] ² = a ²

Solvining  sins  – × –   = +  

⇒   [ x + a  ] ² + [ y – a ] ² = a ²

⇒   x ² + 2 ax + a ² + y ²  – 2ay  + a ²  – a ² = 0

⇒  x ²  + y ² + 2 a x – 2a y  + a ²  = 0

This is the required equation of circle in second quardrant.
